Ranch Visoka: An Authentic Stone House Retreat on Brač Island, Croatia

Brač is known for its beautiful beaches, clear blue sea, and charming stone villages. But there is another side to the island that I would love for you to discover: quiet country roads, olive trees, traditional stone houses, and the simple pleasures of life in the Dalmatian countryside. This is the side of Brač that makes Ranch Visoka special to me.
My name is Juraj, and Ranch Visoka is a family project that grew from our connection to the land and our love for the island. Located near Selca on the southeastern side of Brač Island, the property combines traditional Dalmatian stone houses, a private swimming pool, an outdoor kitchen, and plenty of space to enjoy nature. The nearest beach is approximately 1 km away, so you can spend the day by the sea and return to the peace of the countryside whenever you feel like it.
When we started restoring Ranch Visoka, the idea was simple: to bring an old family property back to life and create a place where guests could experience a different kind of holiday in Croatia. Somewhere to slow down, spend time together, enjoy good food, and discover the island beyond its most popular tourist spots.

The family story behind Ranch Visoka
The story of Ranch Visoka begins long before it became a holiday accommodation. Like many families on Brač, our ancestors had a strong connection to agriculture and the land. They grew olives, cherries, and grapes, and worked hard to make a living from what the island provided. Over time, the property was left waiting for a new beginning.
It was my father who first had the idea of restoring the estate and giving it a new purpose. Our family began rebuilding the traditional stone houses by hand, taking care of the land, and planting olive and fruit trees. We also brought sheep, goats, and chickens to the property, bringing some of the old countryside atmosphere back to life.
The restoration was not just about repairing old buildings. It was about preserving a part of our family's history and creating something that could be shared with others. Today, Ranch Visoka combines that history with the comfort of a modern holiday home, while the surrounding land remains an important part of its character.
For me, this is what makes the property different from a typical holiday rental. Every stone, every restored corner, and every tree planted on the estate is part of a story that continues to grow.

Traditional Dalmatian stone houses with modern comfort
Stone is an essential part of Brač's identity. For generations, local people have used the island's stone to build houses, walls, and entire villages. These buildings are a reminder of the island's history and the people who shaped its landscape.
When restoring Ranch Visoka, we wanted to keep that traditional character while making the houses comfortable for today's guests. The result is a traditional Dalmatian stone house rental that combines natural materials and local architecture with the facilities needed for a relaxing stay.
The houses have equipped kitchens, comfortable bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas, and free Wi-Fi. Outside, the stone walls and surrounding Mediterranean landscape create a peaceful setting where you can enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views.
The property has two separate holiday houses, offering flexibility for families and groups who want to spend time together while still having their own space. Outside July and August, the estate can accommodate up to six guests when both houses are available. During July and August, bookings are limited to one house for up to four guests.
If you are looking for a private country house in Croatia, I believe Ranch Visoka offers something different from a standard holiday apartment. It gives you the chance to stay in a place with real history and character, surrounded by nature and away from the busiest tourist areas.
Enjoy the simple pleasures of countryside living
One of my favourite things about Ranch Visoka is that you do not need to plan every minute of your holiday. There is plenty to discover on Brač, but there is also something special about simply staying at the property and enjoying the day at your own pace.
You can start the morning with coffee outside, spend a few hours exploring the island, and return for a swim in the private pool. In the afternoon, you might read in the shade, prepare lunch, or enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside. As evening approaches, the outdoor kitchen becomes a natural place to gather.
The estate covers approximately 10,000 m², giving guests plenty of room to relax and enjoy a sense of privacy. With no immediate neighbours, you can spend time outdoors without feeling crowded, whether you are travelling as a couple, with family, or with friends.
For travellers searching for a secluded villa on Brač Island with a pool, Ranch Visoka offers a combination of privacy, traditional architecture, and easy access to the coast. The swimming pool is available from May through October, making it a lovely place to cool off during the warmer months.
Sometimes, the best part of a holiday is having the freedom to do very little. At Ranch Visoka, that is something I hope every guest gets to enjoy.

Good food, long evenings, and an outdoor kitchen
Food has always been an important part of life in Dalmatia. Some of the best memories are made around a table with family and friends, enjoying simple food and taking the time to talk.
That is why the outdoor kitchen is such an important part of Ranch Visoka. With a barbecue, stone fireplace, and wood-fired pizza oven, it gives guests the chance to cook outdoors and make meals part of the holiday experience.
You can prepare fresh ingredients, grill vegetables, make homemade pizza, or enjoy a long dinner outside as the evening air cools. There is no need to rush through a meal or hurry off somewhere else. You can cook together, share stories, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being in good company.
For families, it is a lovely way to spend time together. For couples, it creates a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. And for friends travelling together, it offers a natural place to gather after a day exploring the island.
I think these are the moments that often stay with people long after a holiday ends. Not necessarily the biggest attractions or the busiest days, but the simple evenings when everyone is together, and there is nowhere else they need to be.

Eco-friendly accommodation in Croatia
Our connection to the land has also influenced the way we developed Ranch Visoka. We wanted to create a property that respects its natural surroundings and makes thoughtful use of local resources.
The estate uses solar panels to generate electricity and collects rainwater as part of its self-sustaining, off-grid approach. These choices reflect our wish to live more closely with nature and preserve the character of the property.
For guests looking for eco-friendly accommodation in Croatia, Ranch Visoka offers an opportunity to experience a more mindful way of staying. You can enjoy the comfort of a private holiday home while appreciating the natural environment around you and the resources that make the property work.
For me, sustainability is not only about the systems we use. It is also about appreciating what we already have: the land, the stone houses, the trees, the fresh air, and the traditions passed down through generations.
I hope that staying here encourages guests to slow down a little, enjoy their surroundings, and discover how rewarding a simpler way of living can be.

Discover the beaches and villages of Brač
Although Ranch Visoka is surrounded by countryside, the island is easy to explore from the property. The nearest beach is approximately 1 km away, and Sumartin is around 3 km away. This small harbour town has shops, cafés, restaurants, and a relaxed atmosphere that reflects everyday life on the island.
Brač has much more to offer than its coastline. You can visit traditional stone villages, explore quiet country roads, discover local restaurants, and enjoy the olive groves and dry-stone walls that shape the landscape. The island's beaches offer clear Adriatic water, while its inland areas reveal a quieter side of Dalmatian life.
One day, you might spend the morning swimming in the sea before returning to the property for lunch. Another day, you could explore a village, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant, and finish the evening by the pool. Or you might decide to stay at Ranch Visoka all day and enjoy everything the estate has to offer.
For travellers looking for a holiday home near the beaches of Brač, Croatia, the location offers a good balance between exploring the island and having a peaceful place to return to.
I always think it is worth leaving some room in your plans. Sometimes you discover the most interesting places when you take a different road, stop at a small village, or simply follow your curiosity.

A different experience beyond the summer season
Brač is a wonderful summer destination, but the island has something to offer throughout the year. Spring brings fresh greenery and pleasant days for exploring. Autumn is a lovely time to discover local traditions and the olive harvest, while the quieter months offer a different perspective on island life.
Ranch Visoka welcomes guests beyond the main summer season, too. The swimming pool is unavailable from November through April, but the property offers other ways to enjoy a relaxing countryside stay. The cooler months are ideal for walks, exploring villages, enjoying local food, and spending time away from the usual routine. Firewood for the wood-burning stove is available for an additional fee.
Outside the busiest months, the island often feels more peaceful, and there is more time to appreciate the landscape and everyday life in Dalmatia. It can be a wonderful choice for anyone who wants to discover Croatia at a slower pace.
Each season has its own character, and I believe that Brač is worth experiencing beyond the traditional summer holiday.
Welcome to Ranch Visoka
For me, Ranch Visoka is much more than a place to stay. It is an important part of our family's story, a connection to the land, and a way to share the beauty of Brač with people from different parts of the world.
Restoring the old stone houses and bringing the property back to life has been a meaningful journey for our family. We wanted to preserve its character while creating a comfortable place where guests could enjoy nature, privacy, and the relaxed atmosphere of the Dalmatian countryside.
If you are looking for a private country house in Croatia, a traditional Dalmatian stone house rental, or eco-friendly accommodation on Brač Island, I would love for you to discover Ranch Visoka.
Whether you spend your days exploring beaches and villages or simply enjoying the pool, outdoor kitchen, and peaceful surroundings, I hope you leave with good memories and a feeling that you have experienced something a little different.
